There'a a long time and then there's this.....


 So its been a while, been almost a decade. Finally i have a house and space to work. Started stripping paint off, body is remarkedly good. 

The paint was rough as, and im lucky its been undercover for the best part of 15 years It surprised me how rust free it is under all this. Bottom of the doors are holey but other than about 4 holes smalled than your little finger around the front arches i havent found anything at all. 

Been on the hunt for a 1500cc engine, ive got old and like the sound of more torque over high revs :D helps that i have a DCOE 40 and a set of headers aside which will fit it. 

Trying to decide what to do with the doors, i have skins, but honestly its not looking that bad. im considering paying a bloke to repair the bottoms and trying to sell the skins to recoup some money back. stripped 99% of the paint off the roof today and started tidying up the front end. Just leaves the passenger side guard, the boot lid, and both sills to strip. Then we can get on with painting the underside, then remounting the body and trying to work out how to get everything lined up for blocking and base. 

Like is said... Well i never said this was going to happen quickly.....

More stuff arrives, and "deoderized" fish oil

So, now I've been thinking through reassembly and the bits and pieces I'd need to get it together. I've rebuilt the pedals, painted them etc. heater box i repainted with epoxy. Pulled the master cylinders apart and got them down to the shop for a light honing. Dropped the rear axles and the hub puller to the mechanic as i dont have the 17mm allen key drive to pop them. Dropped all the suspension parts to the mechanic to put the bushes in. all sorts. As i was going through in my head the assemble process i realised a couple of things: Trunion kits dont contain the top seal,  My heater valve was completely shot (would explain why the car was always warm inside),  Complete bush kits dont contain shock bushes, or rear diff bushes.  You can get a set of solid brake lines made to length in the UK and shipped to NZ for about 1/2 the cost you can get them made here. Assembly Begins

So its been a long road but i'm finally putting stuff together.  I managed to take two photos :D But stupidly forgot to take photos when i'd finished. Basically i got the suspension towers on, the wishbones, the sway/roll bar, and the steering rack on. I've managed to misplace the tierod ends so they're not on yet. the trunion top seals havent arrived yet so the front uprights arent on either. I also managed to start getting the rear axles disassembled. I've got the partially disassembled rear axles and the front shocks and springs and the front hubs ready to go to the garage to get either fitted on the bearings pulled (i dont have the tools) Once they come back hopefully the trunion seals (which dont come with a trunion kit GRRRR) will have turned up and i can fit the uprights.

It all started along time ago....

So whats this all about? Well its probably more for me than anyone else. I've decided to set this up to document the rebuild of my 1968 13/60 Triumph Herald Saloon. If you're reading this maybe there might be something in here that will help you along the way, maybe not :) First some history I purchased Ed (a nickname from his license plate) back in 2003/04 as a non runner, he had been sitting under a tarp in someones driveway for quite a few years.  He was in a pretty sorry state of disrepair but had very solid bones. (nothing much but surface rust) My mate Anthony and i went out to have a look at him and even though i was looking for a GT6 at the time, i decided for the $200 they were asking i would be silly not to. And so the journey began.
